Idea Land!!! How it hits me!!!

Ideas hit me. Really, they just hit me. I used to be an individual who would struggle to get an idea out on pen and paper; it never worked for me. And to this day it still doesn’t. Ideas never flowed for me on pen and paper, and as always I thought I was a creative hack.
So here is how I solved my own creative struggles. But first you must understand what creativity is.
“Creativity is the process of bringing something new into being…creativity requires passion and commitment. Out of the creative act is born symbols and myths. It brings to our awareness what was previously hidden and points to new life. The experience is one of heightened consciousness–ecstasy.”
—Rollo May, The Courage to Create
Simply stated, creativity is the thought, “why didn’t I think of that.”
It is the point where your colleagues have a few seconds of jealousy. Why? Because the solution is so simple that it makes them think, how did I overlook that? Creativity is simplicity, but new simplicity.
Here is my process:
I look all over to find my solutions. I go for a walk and look around. Just look and don’t think. See what attracts your eye. I watch a movie, not for ideas, but for fun and to see what is so interesting about the movie. I will get into an intense work out and all of sudden my motion becomes the next biggest inspiration. I don’t think, “what can I do.” Instead I know what the problem is and let my mind freely come up with the idea, whenever it strikes. It has yet to fail me. It doesn’t matter what time constraint I have, one hour or a month, it still has yet to fail me.
Why it works:
When people problem solve, the thought process tends to be, “what can I do to make this work” The thoughts tend to become the question over and over again. You see what is wrong with that picture? You have to be thinking of different solutions, but if your mind is like mine and just wants to keep asking the same redundant question, it wont get you anywhere. That is why I let my mind be free, I know subconsciously what I need to solve, it’s just a matter of letting it hit me.
Happy Creativity
