3 Easy Steps in Becoming a Creative Genius!
Posted by admin at April 17th, 2008
The other day I had a friend ask me a question. “What are the basic steps in becoming a creative genius?” There is no easy way to answer it, but I figured it can be done in three steps. Now here is my disclaimer, you have to want to become more creative and cannot sit there thinking to yourself that you are not creative. Therefore, if you think negatively you will have no results.
Now that I got that out of the way. Here are the three easy steps.
Step 1:
Exercise those creative juices and do them frequently. During normal routine activities, taking out the garbage, driving to work, shaving, showering, I think you get the point, just think of ways to simplify the process. When you shave start thinking of ways on how you can create a product or maybe even a service that can help you shave quicker, or faster. Maybe even get a closer shave. When driving down the street, what can be done to help alleviate traffic, other than road expansion? Think outside the box, and think about it frequently. Your thoughts should only last as long as it takes to finish your task. Creativity cannot be forced; it has to hit you! Some days you will find very interesting ideas!!!
Step 2:
Its normal after times to feel like you are a creative hack. Lets be honest, we all feel like that on certain days. I believe this key is the most important, and is the reason why many creatives struggle more than they should. Many times in our jobs and/or activities it requires us to simplify a solution or get creative with our ideas. We are only human, and more often people sit there and struggle and try to force the creative process. It is better to know when to call it a quits. I only brainstorm at 5-minute intervals unless I have high energy and ideas keep flowing out (only happens on occasion). Nothing more. If no idea is achieved I stop, and come back to it after an hour or so. And if I don’t feel like thinking creatively, I don’t because it’s a waste of time, as no idea will spark my imagination. Get out and find inspiration, go for a walk, workout, watch a movie. Creativity is all around, but the key is to let it naturally flow. Creativity is simplicity.
Step 3:
So you know how I said that step 2 is the most important, well I lied. This one is key. Stop thinking your not creative… Sorry its reality and it’s the truth. It goes right with my disclaimer above, but negative thinking will only stop you from thinking creatively. So if you really want to explore your creativity, start being a bit arrogant about it. “I am a creative genius, and my idea is going to blow everyone else’s out of the water.” Take the pressure off and just start thinking simple.
There you have it, three steps to boost your creativity.

Great points you’ve raised here - the fundamental aspect of creative thinking is to KNOW you can do it and to think positively about what you’re doing.
A great book I’ve recently read on the subject of creative problem solving is called Jack’s Notebook by Gregg Fraley. It takes you through an empowering creative process that anyone can learn - and you do learn the process because it’s delivered in a fast-paced emotionally engaging “business fable”.

I totally agree with your sentiments in this article, especially number 3, the creativity has to begin within your own mind, everyone is capable of achieving great things, you just have to truly believe it.
