Advertisers Time to Get Creative – Pick up the Economy

Posted by admin on Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

AHHHH YES advertising, that will do the trick or will we need an even larger miracle. While our politicians are out battling on the right proven method to help alleviate the economy there is just one thing they have already overlooked. Advertising.

Lets approach advertising from a new angle. Advertising is what drives commerce and therefore is the reason for why we make our purchases. People often say advertising has no effect on me. Well my friends you are all wrong, because advertising is social proof. It is the reason you buy certain products over others. Advertising has taught you that Tide detergent won’t fade you colors, while Clorox keeps your clothes white. They both do the same thing but are positioned differently. Advertising is what shapes culture and how trends and fads are discovered. Advertising targets you specifically through the radio you listen, TV you watch, magazines you read, all the way to what roads you are on. When the consumer spends money at the register, that money helps stimulate the economy. And we all know that advertising influences those purchases at the register.

So where am I going with this?

My point here is social proof. Whatever the consumer finds as a trend, he/she will also purchase at one point or another. Therefore, if we want to pump more money into the economy, we need to get consumers purchasing more products to increase supply and demand at a macro level. The key to this initiative is to reduce the cost of advertising media so that companies can leverage this opportunity to get their messages out at a higher frequency. Consistent advertising means brand equity, so when it comes time to purchase, the consumer will remember the brand that made the best impression. Advertising increases sales amongst other things such as brand equity.
